A guide to clipping your dog’s nails

Keeping your dogs nails short is essential to making sure your dog is kept comfortable. In addition ii can keep your floor free from scratches. But clipping your dogs nails is not always that simple and somewhat nerve racking for many dog owners and therefore as a result dog owners put off this task off in fear they may hurt their dog. What’s more, some dogs are not fans of having their nails trimmed and this is another reason dog owners put off the dreaded job. However with the right advice and clippers many pet owners can successfully clip their nails.

Choosing a good pair of nail clippers is first on the list. So where do you find the best dog nail grinder to use on your dog? Well Amazon is a great place to look, but as there are many of dog nail clippers to choose from, it can often be hard for dog owners to choose which of these is the best.  Toppet Lovers is a great blog that offers reviews on the best professional dog nail clippers so it is a fantastic place for owners to visit when deciding which one they may want to purchase.

Secondly having your dogs favourite treat ready for them is always handy, as dogs are a lot more likely to sit still and keep calm for owners if they know they will get a reward at the end. Especially if they know it is something that will taste good!

Thirdly choosing the right place to use their dog nail grinder is also important, as having a place where your dog feels comfortable and relaxed will mean your dog will be a lot calmer during the procedure. For example their bed or in a safe area of your home.

Furthermore the time you decide to carry out the nail clipping will determine how smoothly it will go. For example it is advisable for pet owners to clip their dogs nails after they have they have just eaten their evening meal and have been out for a long walk, as they are a lot more likely to keep still while their nails are being cut.

If you do cut your dogs nail too short and it begins to bleed, do not panic just apply pressure to the tip of the nail and it will soon resolve itself.

The benefits of using Cannabidiol (CBD) for your pet

Most people have heard of the drug marijuana, however most people often think of marijuana because of the chemical tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) it contains. This is the part of the plant that makes people high. But this is just one of the many chemicals found in the plant and scientists are now turning their attention to Cannabidiol (CBD) – for good reason too. CBD can either come from hemp plants or marijuana but due legality issues, CBD drugs are mainly used from hemp plants. Below we will discuss the benefits of this naturally sourced chemical and why pet owners should be using this drug to treat theirs pets. This is truly great news for pooch lovers.

CBD works by interacting with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) and as a result has minimal side affects which has led scientists to become very excited about this compound. Therefore making this a great drug for pet owners to use.

As the ECS controls our appetite, memory, mood, nausea, pain and inflammation, it can be used as a treatment pathway for a whole host of medical issues for our pets. For example CBD can be used as an Antiemetic to reduce nausea and vomiting. In addition it can used as an antipsychotic, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and an anti-cancer / tumoral.

There are many places online that sell CBD, however it can be hard to know which place to buy from as not all companies may be safe. One company in particular that has had a good reviews is Canna Pet. The recent Review on Canna Pet saw that there capsules come from highly concentrated hemp safe plants and are offered in a range of shapes and sizes to suit range of breeds. This is known as the Canna-Pet Advanced Capsule.

In addition to the capsules, they also provide organic biscuits for dogs, using the ingredients of the Canna-Pet Advanced product. The organic biscuits are targeted at dogs needing the highest dose of CBD and these biscuits contain the most cannabidol to give dogs to most out of the drug but with still minimal side affects.

How to Teach Your Dog to Love Water

Yоu wаnt уоur dоg tо swim?

We’re gоіng tо trу tо gіvе ѕоmе аdvісе on hоw tо teach a dog hоw tо ѕwіm аnd some gеnеrаl ѕаfеtу іѕѕuеѕ. Aѕ аlwауѕ сhесk wіth уоur vеt on аnу medical questions.

I wоuld suggest starting your dоg оut іn a рооl оr ѕhаllоw lаkе whеrе уоu саn enter the wаtеr with your dog. Mаnу dоgѕ wіll bе mоrе confident іf you аrе standing wіth them іf they аrе nеrvоuѕ аbоut vеnturіng оut оn their own. Sо bу wаlkіng оut, уоu саn buіld thеіr соnfіdеnсе before lеttіng them gо оn their own. Bring a fаvоrіtе tоу wіth уоu аnd еnсоurаgе thеm out furthеr bу tоѕѕіng thе toy ѕhоrt dіѕtаnсеѕ and ѕwіmmіng over tо іt.  And always be sure to use a no stink waterproof dog collar so help avoid any irritation or odors which may arise and discourage your dog.

Sоmе tірѕ:

Brіng аnоthеr dog whо knоwѕ how tо ѕwіm аlоng tо hеlр encourage уоur реt to try.

There аrе lіfе vеѕtѕ (life jackets) уоu can рurсhаѕе tо аіdе іn teaching your dоg. These usually have hаndlеѕ that you can hоld оntо еаѕіlу and аrе hеlрful fоr gеttіng a dog bасk іntо a bоаt.

Use a no stink waterproof dog collar at every swim outing.  This will help to relax the dog and prevent foul odors and having a wet dog collar for the next several hours.

Wаtеr Frеаkіng

Here іѕ a common рrоblеm. Your pup goes оff аnd wоn’t come bасk. Yоu hаvе two сhоісеѕ, ѕwіm out аnd get thеm, оr wаіt untіl thеу get tired аnd come back. Nеvеr lеt thеm оff lеаѕh аnd аwау frоm уоu untіl you knоw for a fасt they wіll rеturn оr start іn ѕhаllоw wаtеr whеrе уоu саn go gеt them ѕhоuld уоu need tо.

Use a twо tоу аррrоасh tо rеtrіеvіng and swimming. Always kеер оnе сlоѕе bу so you саn tоѕѕ іt nеаr them. Trу tо mаkе a lоt оf noise tо get thеіr аttеntіоn and toss it іntо thе ѕhаllоw wаtеr. Tеnnіѕ bаllѕ are nоt thе best сhоісе as thеу саn gеt lоdgеd іn thе thrоаt blocking thе аіrwау. Try kоng rеtrіеvіng tоуѕ оr retrieving bumреrѕ.

Aftеrwоrdѕ, make ѕurе уоu RINSE уоur dog with frеѕh wаtеr tо get оut аnу bасtеrіа or сhеmісаlѕ. Yоu саn also rіnѕе уоur dоg bеfоrе hand tо hеlр thе wаtеr nоt absorb іntо the соаt hаіr.

Exercises with your dog

So it’s the January blues as Christmas is officially over and you & your pooch have put on a few extra unnecessary pounds from all the Christmas festivities. So now is the time to get that extra weight shifted to start the New Year on a high and what better way to do than to do this than do it with your beloved dog! So we have a few tips and what you can do with your pet.

First thing that is probably the most obvious one is to do on a dog walk! However wouldn’t it be more fun to set yourself a challenge? Well it is a New Year so what better way to start it off than by setting yourself a challenge. Maybe there is a nearby mountain that you have wanted to climb but maybe you haven’t had the motivation or time before or maybe a nearby lake with a big walk around it that you have never had the chance to do. Just have a look in your local area at what big walks are available. Most parks and mountain walks are dog friendly but always remember to check what their rules are before going as some will have restrictions such as your dog with be required to be kept on a lead.

Jogging is also an excellent way to get the pounds shifting and there is no better way than to go running with a partner so take your companion not only are they great company but terrific motivation for running. However if you have an older it might be a good idea to pop down to your local vet and make sure your dog has a check up in order to ensure they are medically fit before you decide to go running with them. Also if you have a particular breed such as a Pug or British Bull Dog who are known to having breathing problems it might be a good idea to maybe take a friends dog instead if you want to go jogging and take them just on a walk instead, again maybe worth checking with your local vet for some advice first. Also always remember to keep your dog on their lead just in case control is lost during your run and last thing you want is to be running after them in case they go into the road or run off to chase pigeons if you’re at the park.

Another option is to do some workout exercises at home and why not make it more interesting by getting your dog involved. Jessica Smith who has her own You Tube channel sharing her fitness videos along with her pet dog Peanut. She shares 7 moves that you can do with your pet at home that we found to be really good and easy for anyone to do. Five things your dog needs to be happy and healthy

The Animal Welfare Act (2006) states that dogs require five things to be happy and healthy, but the PDSA’s recent Animal Welfare Report found that less than half of owners know what these five needs are. The standards include:

  • Environment

Provide your dog with a warm bed in a quiet place, keep dangerous substances out of reach and clean up after your dog goes to toilet to avoid spreading diseases and parasites. When travelling by car, your dog should sit on the backseat with a seatbelt, or secured behind a dog guard.

  • Company

Dogs are social animals and shouldn’t be left home alone for more than four hours each day. If you’re going on holiday, ask a friend or relative to look after your dog or contact a well-run kennel.

  • Diet

Dogs, just like humans, require a healthy balanced diet to avoid obesity, which can cause diabetes, heart disease and arthritis. The best food for your dog will depend on its age, weight and build.

  • Behaviour

Train your dog to behave from an early age. At three to eight weeks, puppies love to explore. Afterwards, they can become nervous around new objects. You should therefore expose your dog to a variety of people, animals and experiences, before it reaches eight weeks old.

  • Health

Dogs should be neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped and insured, in addition to being   registered with a vet and treated for fleas and worms regularly. Ensure your dog enjoys   regular grooming, dental checks and appropriate exercise for its age, breed and health.
